The Diary of the Seducer by Soren Kierkegaard is as frightening, I think, but in a much different way. Gurgioli's longtime obsession with Kierkegaard's “A Seducer's Diary,” from the book Either/Or by the nineteenth century Danish philosopher. I want to illustrate this with a discussion of Baudrillard's reading of Soren Kierkegaard's Diary of the Seducer. The most famous part of “Either/Or” is a section of part one called “The Seducer's Diary” which Victor Emerita suspects is written by a third party altogether, named “Johannes”. Johannes, a young man of society, and an expert in seduction, is especially attracted to Cordelia. This person's life is also consumed with fighting boredom. This theory has a historical connection with the 19th century Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard in the work The Seducer's Diary, an extract of the book Either/Or. According to Kierkegaard, there are three stages or “spheres” of existence: the aesthetic, the ethical and the religious. Some time ago I posted about a beautiful book cover — Kierkegaard's The Seducer's Diary featured at Sutura. The person's life is consumed with obtaining these goods and has no higher moral power. Kierkegaard writes in “Diary of a Seducer”: “You have had the audacity to deceive a person in such a way that you have become everything to me, so that I would rejoice solely in being your slave.
